Falconets Chances Of Qualification For U-20 World Cup Knockouts

Irikefe Oghenetega Victor

Despite having only one point and failing to score in their opening two matches, Nigeria’s Falconets still have a realistic path to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets sit third in Group F with one point after a 2-0 loss to Spain and a 0-0 draw with China. Spain lead the group with six points and have already qualified, while China are second on four points. New Caledonia remain bottom with zero points and a goal difference of -16.

Nigeria’s final group fixture against New Caledonia takes place on Sunday, September 13, at the Stadion Miejski ŁKS in Łódź, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 pm WAT. A convincing victory would give the Falconets four points and significantly improve their goal difference.

Two routes to the knockout stages remain open. A strong win over New Caledonia, combined with favourable results elsewhere, particularly if Spain defeat China that could lift Nigeria into second place in the group. Alternatively, four of the best third-placed teams from the six groups will also advance. Four points and a healthier goal difference would place the Falconets in a strong position among the third-placed sides.

According to Head coach Moses Aduku, he expressed satisfaction with his players’ performance despite their failure to secure maximum points against China. “The honest truth is that we came to win, but I think China also showed some resilience in the game,” “It was not a bad game for both sides, but the little chances we created, we could not take them again.”

The clean sheet against China and the encouraging performances of some of the younger players offer positives as the team prepares for the must-win encounter. Progression is still very much possible if the Falconets deliver a dominant performance on Sunday.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
