Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei has earned a call-up to the Super Falcons for Nigeria’s 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifying clash against Comoros.
The 18-year-old forward is being rewarded for her impressive rise with the Falconets, particularly her performances at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, where she scored twice in four appearances. Akekoromowei also previously represented Nigeria at the 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup and has senior international experience, having made her Super Falcons debut in 2024.
Comoros booked their place in the second round after producing a remarkable 30–0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round. They won the first leg 17–0 before completing the rout with a 13–0 victory in the return fixture.
Nigeria, meanwhile, received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the African qualifying series. The Falcons will now face Comoros over two legs, with the fixtures scheduled for October 9 and October 13, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
Akekoromowei’s inclusion marks another significant step in her rapid progression from Nigerian domestic football and the youth national teams to European football with Benfica and the senior Super Falcons.
