25 Nigerian Coaches Begin CAF A-License Course in Abuja

Twenty-five top-flight coaches have commenced a two-module CAF A-License coaching programme in Abuja as Nigeria resumes its participation in the advanced coaching certification after a nine-year break.
The intensive course, which began on Tuesday, features both theoretical sessions and practical training and brings together coaches from Nigeria’s national teams, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
The programme represents Nigeria’s return to the CAF A-License Convention, with the country last hosting the advanced coaching course nine years ago. Despite the absence of the A-License programme during that period, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) continued to conduct coaching courses at the D, C and B-License levels.
Furthermore, the federation also strengthened its focus on women’s coaching development in 2025 by organising a dedicated CAF C-License course for female coaches. The programme was delivered in three modules over a three-month period.
However, first phase of the current CAF A-License course will run for five days, with the NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, scheduled to officially declare the programme open on Wednesday. The second and final module is expected to hold next month.
The return of the CAF A-License coaching programme to Abuja represents an important step in strengthening Nigeria’s football development structure, combining international coaching standards with the demands of the domestic game. The initiative is expected to expand the pool of qualified coaches available to Nigerian clubs and contribute to improved technical standards across the country.
