The Super Falcons thrashed Egypt 6-2 in their final Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat on Wednesday after a dominant performance as the advance to the quarter finals of the competition.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute after a handball decision, marking her 16th career goal at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Gift Monday added a second goal deep into first-half stoppage time to give Nigeria a 2-0 lead.
Egypt pulled one back through a penalty converted by Nadine Ghazi just before the break. However, the Super Falcons took full control in the second half. Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal cushion in the 57th minute, before Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade (penalty), and Joy Omewa completed the scoring.
The victory ensured Nigeria finished second in Group C with six points, level with Malawi and Zambia. Ranking among the three tied teams was decided by head-to-head results and goal difference between them, with matches against Egypt excluded. Malawi topped the group, while Nigeria secured second place ahead of Zambia.
Head coach Justine Madugu’s side will now face Cameroon in the last eight as they continue their pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
