Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed confidence in the state's readiness to host the 2026 CAF Awards following a successful inspection of facilities by a delegation from the Confederation of African Football. The governor assured that Lagos is set to host a celebrated ceremony honoring Africa's top football talents.
The five-member team delegates, led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, the Head of Safety and Security for CAF, visited the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu on Monday. During their visit, they reviewed arrangements concerning technology, transportation, accommodation, and branding for the upcoming event.
In response to the inspection, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state's commitment to providing a world-class experience for the tournament. He emphasized that every detail is being addressed to showcase Lagos's ability to host major international sporting events.
The CAF officials were welcomed by Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, who highlighted Lagos as Africa's preferred destination for global sporting events. Prior to their visit to Lagos, the delegation also inspected key facilities in Abuja, such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
Accompanied by officials from the Nigeria Football Federation's media, marketing, security, protocol, and ICT departments, the CAF team conducted a comprehensive inspection. The 2026 CAF Awards are scheduled to take place in Lagos later this year, with the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly set to occur in Abuja.
