Road Rehabilitation::Lagos to Shut Oke-Afa Bridge for Three-Weeks

Awojobi Khadijat

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to temporarily close the Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo Local Government Area for three weeks to allow rehabilitation works on the facility.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this on Monday, saying the closure will run from Friday, August 28, to Friday, September 18, 2026. He explained that the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase covering the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo section from August 28 to September 11, while the second phase will focus on the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section from September 12 to September 18.

Osiyemi said during the first phase, motorists travelling from Isolo towards Ejigbo would be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway at Pako Roundabout, where traffic would move in both directions before rejoining the main carriageway at Mobil Filling Station. During the second phase, motorists from Ejigbo heading towards Isolo would similarly be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station before rejoining the main carriageway at Pako Roundabout.

He added that motorists travelling in the opposite direction during each phase would share the available carriageway before regaining full access to the road. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, will be deployed to coordinate vehicular movement and minimise delays, while an emergency tow vehicle will also be stationed within the area to assist with breakdowns.

Osiyemi urged motorists to remain patient and follow the designated diversion routes throughout the rehabilitation period, noting that the temporary closure forms part of the traffic management plan for the project being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
