Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has said reclaiming his position as Nigeria’s first-choice shot-stopper is not currently his main concern as he settles into a new chapter with South African club Chippa United.
Nwabali rejoined the Eastern Cape side last month after previously leaving in February and spending about six months without competitive football. He made an impressive return, keeping a clean sheet and making six saves to earn the Man of the Match award in Chippa United’s opening Betway Premiership match of the 2026/27 season.
Speaking to SABC Sport, the goalkeeper said: “I feel positive coming back to the club, not just for me but also for the team. The relationship and the agreement is all good. I just want the team to succeed this season.”
In his absence from the national team setup, Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo have emerged as the increasingly likely options between the posts for the Super Eagles.
Nwabali will now focus on rebuilding his form and confidence at club level with Chippa United, while the competition for the Super Eagles goalkeeping position continues to intensify.
