Moferewa Maiye was arrested by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja for allegedly disguising as a DSS operative and using the identity to intimidate and collect money from motorists and commuters.
According to investigations, Maiye was tracked down by the DSS to a hideout around NITEL Junction, along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, Abuja, following his alleged activities. He was arrested on Wednesday night while allegedly wearing a DSS tactical uniform and carrying a toy pistol.
During questioning, Maiye claimed that the DSS uniform and other items found in his possession belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who he said had been a DSS operative before his death.
However, the DSS is still investigating how Maiye obtained the uniform and how long he had allegedly been involved in the impersonation and extortion of motorists.
