Falcons Technical Crew Forced to Step Down After World Cup Exit
By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor
The Nigeria Football Federation has directed members of the Super Falcons technical crew to step down from their positions with immediate effect.
The directive was issued by the NFF Executive Committee on Monday, August 17, following a disappointing campaign by the women’s national team.
The Super Falcons exited the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon. They later suffered a 2-1 loss to South Africa in a play-off, which ended their hopes of reaching the inter-confederation play-offs and securing a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The result marked the first time Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991, bringing an end to their unbroken appearance record.
However, the NFF is yet to announce a replacement for the technical crew or provide further details on the next steps for the Super Falcons. Further developments are expected as the federation continues its review of the women’s national team.
