Nigeria has been officially confirmed as the host of the 2026 CAF Awards, with the prestigious ceremony set to take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in Lagos.
The venue, formerly known as the National Theatre in Iganmu, will welcome Africa’s top football stars later this year. This marks the first time Nigeria is hosting the continental football gala since 2015.
Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, confirmed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. The exact date of the awards is yet to be announced by CAF, but it is expected to take place later in the year, possibly alongside the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly scheduled for October.
The 2026 CAF Awards will recognise outstanding performers across key categories, including Men’s Player of the Year, Women’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year.
Nigeria previously hosted the ceremony in 2015 at the Eko Hotels and Convention Centre in Lagos and in January 2017 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja. The return of the event underscores the country’s growing influence in African football administration.
Further details, including the official date and complete list of award categories, are expected to be released by CAF in the coming weeks as Lagos prepares to welcome leading figures from across the continent.
