Baami Recounts Ordeal Of Ex-Girlfriend Loan That Became Huge Debt

Salu Fatimoh

Content creator Samuel Adegbeyi, popularly known as Baami, has recounted his ordeal on a loan he took on behalf of his Ex-girlfriend that nearly destroyed his life.

Speaking during an interview with Punch, Baami said he borrowed about N30,000 from an online loan app and added his savings to help his girlfriend start a business.

He said, “I genuinely loved her and wanted to support her.” However, after receiving the money, her attitude towards him changed completely.

According to him, the loan had a short repayment period, and his inability to repay it on time caused the interest to increase drastically. He said, “Eventually, a loan of about N30,000 grew to more than N300,000.”

Baami revealed that he resorted to borrowing from other loan apps to repay the initial debt, which eventually trapped him in a cycle of borrowing. He said, “For almost a year, I struggled financially and emotionally.

There was a period of about four months when I could barely function. I stayed indoors most of the time,” he said.

He added that a friend he lived with had to take care of him during that difficult period, including cooking for him, saying he sometimes ate leftovers the following morning because he could barely take care of himself.

“It was one of the most difficult periods of my life, and I survived only by God’s grace,” he said.

Baami explained that the experience also delayed his education, as he could not return to school as planned because he was struggling to repay the debt.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
