Tinubu to Govs: Stop Building unnecessary Flyovers

By Adenuga Toheeb Ayoola

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday urged state governors to stop constructing flyovers in areas with low traffic volume and instead invest the increased allocations from the Federation Account in road networks that would improve residents’ living standards and enhance security operations.

The advice, which was given by the President while receiving a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The monarchs were at the Villa to congratulate him on the successful rescue of victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state after spending 56 days in captivity.

Tinubu noted that states now receive four to five times the allocations they previously received from the Federation Account, stressing that the funds should be deployed to projects that directly benefit the people.

“Do more instead of building flyovers where there is no significant traffic. Build roads and arterial networks to enhance the quality of life and improve the accessibility of security agencies to penetrate those areas,” the President advised.

Speaking on the rescue operation, He said the military successfully secured the victims’ freedom because it had adequate knowledge of the geographical layout of the forest where they were held.

“We refused to pay ransom. We have the geography of the forest. We know what it is,” he said, adding that the operation underscored the importance of intelligence gathering and strategic planning in the fight against insecurity.

The President also stressed the need for continuous reforms in the country’s security architecture, noting that every security incident presents new lessons that require the government to review its strategies, operational plans and response mechanisms.

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
