LAWMA Assures Lagosians Swift Waste Evacuation

By Emmanuel Uduak-Obong Esther

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has assured Lagos residents of swift waste evacuation across the state, saying ongoing efforts to expand disposal capacity will help clear the growing waste backlog and restore cleaner roads.

The agency's Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, gave the assurance on Tuesday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Road E and newly constructed disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility in Ojota.

"By opening this place, we've created more space. Over the next few days, there won't be refuse on our roads," Gbadegesin said.

Furthermore, He explained that the newly created disposal space would ease operational bottlenecks, improve access within the facility, and enhance the efficiency of waste evacuation across Lagos.

Gbadegesin described the accumulation of refuse on Lagos roads as unacceptable, noting that the additional capacity would enable LAWMA to address the waste backlog more effectively. He recalled that the agency had earlier announced an 18 month transition plan following the groundbreaking of a transfer loading station, adding that the reclaimed section of the facility would serve as temporary disposal space during the transition.

The LAWMA boss also urged residents to support the government's efforts by disposing of waste responsibly. He advised Lagosians to avoid dumping refuse on roads and medians, patronise their assigned Public Sector Participant (PSP) operators, pay promptly for waste collection services, and report any service delays directly to the agency.

Gbadegesin stressed that maintaining a cleaner Lagos is a shared responsibility between the government and residents, adding that proper waste disposal remains essential to achieving a healthier and more sustainable environment.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
