Grow With Time, Not Just With Effort

 Emmanuel Uduak-Obong Esther

I remember when a keypad phone felt like the peak of technology. Owning one made you feel like you had arrived. Then touchscreen phones became the standard. Overnight, the phone everyone admired became something people tucked away in drawers. It wasn't because it had stopped working. The world had simply moved on.

That's what growth does. It doesn't wait for you to be ready. It doesn't stop simply because you've reached one milestone. It just keeps going, and you either move with it or you become the keypad phone in someone's drawer, still functional, still fondly remembered, but no longer where the world is looking.

Growing from where you are to where you ought to be will always cost you something. There's no way around it. Every version of you that you're proud of today was built on days you didn't feel like showing up, but you did anyway.

So stay committed. Keep pushing. And when you finally arrive, don't get too comfortable.

Because time doesn't stand still, and neither should you.

Think about it. The world rewards those who keep learning. Skills become outdated. Ideas evolve. Opportunities shift. The people who continue to grow remain relevant, while those who stop often wonder when the world left them behind.

That's the whole point: grow with time, not just with effort. Comfort is not the goal. Evolution is. The moment you settle into "this is enough," the world quietly moves ten steps ahead. So always aim for more. As long as there's breath in your lungs, there's still so much you can achieve.

But here's the balance nobody talks about enough: ambition should never come at the cost of your peace.

Don't ever believe you're not doing well. That kind of thinking has a way of creeping in quietly, weakening your zeal and dimming a strength you didn't even know you were losing. So even as you push, be kind to yourself. Acknowledge how far you've come, even while reaching for how much farther you can go.

Everyone started small. Every name that means something today once meant nothing to anyone. You have a whole world to build, and your name is the paint.

So paint your world beautifully, because eyes are always drawn to beauty. Make sure your work, your character, and your legacy give them something worth remembering.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
