The Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), will host the second edition of its career development programme, "Beyond the Degree 2.0," on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the 500-Seater Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus. The event, jointly organised by the Mass Communication Students Association (MACSA) and the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
According to the press statement released by the 300 level PRAD students, it states that the programme will focus on the theme "Graduating into Entrepreneurship: The Future of Media Practitioners," and is designed to prepare students and young media professionals for opportunities within the evolving media landscape. Student leadership said the event seeks "to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry realities by empowering students to view entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career path within the media ecosystem."
The organisers noted that participants will be exposed to emerging opportunities in media entrepreneurship, strategic communication, branding, and digital content creation, with the aim of promoting innovation and professional development among attendees.
Documentary photographer and author Mr. Dayo Adedayo will deliver the keynote address. The programme will also feature a panel session comprising Strategic Communication Expert Mr. Ibrahim B. Fatoyinbo, Adegraphics Chief Executive Officer Mr. Biolatiri A. Victor, and Virtual Ms Mariam Founder Mrs. Mariam O. Bello.
Activities lined up for the event include keynote presentations, panel discussions, question-and-answer sessions, networking opportunities, and award presentations. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, will serve as Chief Host, while Head of Department Dr. Zannu Prosper Nunayon and Director of Student Affairs Dr. Ademola Aderogba will serve as Host and Co-Host respectively.
The programme is being convened by MACSA President, Comrade Jenrade S. Ololade and UCJ President, Ibrahim Habeeb Irewole. Students, academics, media professionals, entrepreneurs, and members of the public are encouraged to attend.
