Turkish club Fenerbahçe makes move to Sign Calvin Bassey
Turkish giants Fenerbahçe are intensifying their move in the pursuit of Fulham and Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey ahead of the summer transfer window.
Presidential candidate Aziz Yıldırım, former president of Fenerbahçe who is actively campaigning, has identified the Nigerian international as the club’s number one defensive target. Yıldırım has reportedly travelled to London to hold direct talks with Bassey’s representatives as he pushes to strengthen the squad significantly if re-elected.
Bassey, who joined Fulham from Ajax in 2023, has made over 100 appearances for the Cottagers. The 26-year-old is entering the latter stages of his contract which is ending in 2027, attracting interest from several European clubs. Fenerbahçe view his physicality and left-sided profile as ideal for their backline as they aim to end a long title drought and challenge rivals Galatasaray.
According to Turkish reports, Premier League-based players are central to Yıldırım’s recruitment plan, with Bassey at the top of their defensive shortlist. Other targets include Senegalese left-back Malick Diouf and Manchester City winger Savinho.
Bassey has been a consistent performer for both club and country, and a move to Fenerbahçe would offer him regular European football next season.
