The Super Eagles successfully defended their title as they clinched the 2026 Unity Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final at The Valley Stadium, London on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Alhassan Yusuf opened the scoring in the 3rd minute and added a second goal in the 91st minute to complete a brace. Captain Terem Moffi sealed the win with a well-taken goal in the 59th minute.
This victory marks Nigeria’s fourth Unity Cup title, as they have won every single edition of the tournament (2002, 2004, 2025, and 2026). It was also a repeat final against Jamaica, whom they defeated on penalties last year.
Coach Éric Chelle used the tournament to test an experimental squad, deliberately leaving out several established stars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman to give opportunities to fringe players and debutants. Standout performers included Millwall winger Femi Azeez, who impressed throughout the competition, and Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who kept clean sheets in both the semi-final and final.
The win provides Chelle with valuable insights as the Super Eagles continue preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
