Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho played a vital role as Celtic came from behind to defeat Hearts 3-1 and win the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership title on the final day of the season.
Hearts had taken the lead through Lawrence Shankland’s 43rd-minute header, but Celtic responded strongly at Celtic Park. Arne Engels equalised from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time (45+4), Daizen Maeda put Celtic ahead in the 87th minute, and Callum Osmand sealed the victory deep in stoppage time (98th minute).
The dramatic win saw Celtic finish with 82 points, two clear of Hearts, securing their 56th Scottish league title and fifth consecutive championship.
Manager Martin O’Neill, who returned mid-season and engineered the turnaround, was emotional afterwards, saying:
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I could experience those lads up there [lifting the trophy]. The players and the coaching staff have given me a reason to live."
The victory also guarantees Celtic a UEFA Champions League playoff spot next season. A memorable end to the campaign for Iheanacho and Celtic.
