Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong served as one of the draw assistants at the official qualifying draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which took place on Tuesday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The ceremony determined the groups for the qualifiers, as Nigeria and 47 other nations begin their journey towards the tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
Troost-Ekong was joined by other African football legends including Max-Alain Gradel (Ivory Coast), Essam El Hadary (Egypt), and Trésor Mputu (DR Congo).
The 2027 edition will mark the first time AFCON is jointly hosted by three countries and returns to East Africa since 1976. A total of 48 teams were drawn into 12 groups of four, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the finals.
For the Super Eagles, the draw marks the beginning of their campaign as they aim to bounce back strongly and challenge for a fourth continental title.
