Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has omitted goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from both the 27-man squad for the 2026 Unity Cup and the squad for upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
Nwabali, who has been Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper since the 2023 AFCON, was left out due to his lack of club football. The shot-stopper has been without a club for over three months, raising concerns about his match fitness.
The Unity Cup squad features a mix of established European-based stars like Wilfred Ndidi and Francis Uzoho, alongside several home-based players. Nigeria will defend their title at The Valley in London, facing Zimbabwe in the semi-final on May 26, with the final against either Jamaica or India on May 30.
For the tougher June friendlies, Chelle named a 24-man squad. The Super Eagles will face Poland in Warsaw on June 3 before taking on Portugal on June 10. These matches are key preparation for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Arthur Okonkwo, who recently switched allegiance to Nigeria, has been included and is expected to battle with Francis Uzoho and others for the number one spot during the upcoming games.
