Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication and Media, Daniel Bwala, has denied ever describing President Bola Tinubu as a drug lord, saying the claim was a product of social media distortion that mainstream newspapers amplified without verification.
Bwala made the denial in an interview with News Central on Monday, challenging his interviewers to produce any video evidence of the alleged statement.
“I have never in my life addressed Bola Tinubu as a drug lord. In fact, I have never believed in it,” he said.
“If you have it here, we can shut the interview and you produce it,” he added.
Moreover,he made it known that journalism now has taken a different dimension, that very good journalists, their good work is being overshadowed by the conduct of very few minority who have mastered the nuances of social media that feeds off of ill will and hate for the monetisation of revenue instead of verifying the source of their information before publicity.
Bwala, who served as spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign before joining Tinubu’s administration, has claimed that he explicitly rejected the “drug lord” characterisation during that period. His denial has drawn scepticism from social media users who circulated older video clips in response, accusing him of inconsistency after crossing to Tinubu’s camp.
