A Federal High Court in Kaduna has ordered that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, be kept in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. The court adjourned his bail hearing to April 14 after listening to arguments from both the defence and prosecution.
El-Rufai is facing a 10-count charge involving alleged money laundering and diversion of public funds. The case includes claims that he received about N579 million as severance allowance above what was approved, as well as $320,800 through transactions suspected to be illegal. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, while the prosecution opposed his bail, saying the case is serious.
Meanwhile, the court had earlier postponed the bail hearing before fixing the new date. El-Rufai is also expected to appear before another court on April 10 in a related case. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the case continues.
