THE BURNT FOOD

I laid to sleep a little sleep
There my dreams came blooming
As little roses that pierce still
The mind, soul, and body.

Just a little sleep I had
When the pot swallowed my only meal
At my wake not even
The presence of water I could feel.

A little sleep with my head
Caressing the pillow left me
Hanging dead on my heart
With my strands of hair fighting one another.

I woke to shock in my darkened pot
It was already 5:44 a.m.
I couldn't say a word as just a
Little sleep had stolen my food away.

The chirping sound of the birds
Reminded me it was dawn
But, a little sleep had eaten up
My day's joy.

What do I do?
Whom do I call?
A little sleep has washed me sore
Like an angry river.

Who will listen to me?
Who will believe a little sleep
Gave me out to death
In the arms of hunger?

A little sleep is a devil
That comes to steal, to kill
And to destroy what it did
Not build.

But, I lost my meal
So, I will have to starve till I find another meal
A little sleep has brought me sorrow
And left me in distress and hunger.

Beware of little sleep.

LASUSTECH, LIRS partners to Boost Tax Literacy Among Staff

By Okenu Favour  Lagos State University of Science and Technology in collaboration with Lagos State Internal Revenue Service partners to boost tax literacy among all university staff. The event will hold at the 500 seater auditorium, Ikorodu campus on the 12th of March 2026.  In a statement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations, LASUSTECH, all staff were advised to make attendance of the programme a point of duty. "This important session will provide staff with valuable insights into the provisions of the new law and its impact on the employees of this university" he explained.
