The Federal government has joined forces with the Academic Staff Union of Universities to investigate the mismanagement of Tertiary Education Trust fund Allocations by Vice Chancellors .
In a public presentation of TETFUND sponsored academic textbooks at Abuja on Wednesday, the president of ASUU, Chris Piwuna noted that a lot of money is being given to universities "While some of them have mismanaged it, others have used them for different purposes than what they were meant for
"We are going to turn our searchlights on the VCs and our universities soon. Honestly, we will. Because funds are not being properly managed at the university levels, we are going to take them up to make sure that they account for all of them.” he declared.
Expressing support for the scrutiny of VCS mismanagement of TETFUND, Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa added "Every single money that we deploy to those institutions should be used the way they are meant to be used. We would work with you (ASUU) to ensure that that’s being done.”
Moreover, the purpose of TETFUND is to finance infrastructure and learning equipment necessary for research making and creation of a quality learning environment for government owned universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Ultimately ,ASUU promises to ensure the accomplishment of this purpose by ensuring proper management and accountability on the part of the universities as regards TETFUND projects.
