Boko Haram fighters attacked two military posts in Borno State last night. One at Ajilari Cross, near Maiduguri, and the other was in Baga.
The attack at Ajilari Cross began around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026. Loud gunshots and explosions shook nearby neighborhoods, and people who were out for night prayers during Ramadan said they were very scared as military helicopters patrolled overhead.
Soldiers, police, the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), and the Air Force responded quickly. After hours of gun battle the attackers ran away, and authorities said the situation is now under control.
Bashir Yusuf, a resident of Gomari, said: “We were very scared because of all the gunshots and explosions. Thank God things are calm now and prayers are back to normal.”
Officials said Boko Haram has been attacking military posts in Borno recently. Last week, Defence Minister Christopher Musa told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about new plans and equipment to fight the group.
Authorities are asking residents to stay calm but remain careful while security forces continue to patrol the area.
