Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied having any connection to the controversial OPL 245 oil block. In a statement released by his media office, it said he never had any interest in the oil asset and that his involvement was only in the public interest and to support the rule of law.
The statement also described OPL 245 as “one of the most consequential oil assets in Nigeria, long entangled in complex litigation and international scrutiny.”
Furthermore, the media office called on the Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi, to focus on addressing the main legal issues instead of dismissing concerns as propaganda. It stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, adding that ignoring key facts could damage Nigeria’s image both locally and internationally.
The statement concluded by saying, “Nigeria cannot build credibility, locally or internationally, by ignoring documented facts or dismissing legitimate questions. The rule of law must remain supreme.”
