The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two suspected kidnappers and the arrest of two others during a police operation carried out in the state. According to the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation was carried out by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after investigations into the kidnapping of three people in the Ipojo area of Atan-Ijebu on May 11, 2026.
The victims were later released unharmed after the kidnappers reportedly collected ransom. After their release, police officers tracked the suspects to their hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road area in the early hours of May 15.
The police said the suspects opened fire when they saw the officers, leading to a gun battle. Two of the suspected kidnappers were killed during the exchange, while others escaped into a nearby forest with gunshot injuries.
Police later arrested two suspects identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, believed to be the gang leader, and Mohammed Bello. Items recovered from the suspects included an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, a single-barrel gun, ₦1.5 million suspected to be ransom money, mobile phones, and a black bag.
The police said investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to arrest other members of the gang who escaped. Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in the operation and assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
