President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s proposal to host the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony and the Confederation of African Football’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly.
The approval was granted during a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. Officials present at the meeting included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, former NFF President and CAF Presidential Adviser Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
According to a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation, “The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has approved Nigeria’s proposed hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football, as well as this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony.”
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for October 2026 and will bring together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and senior football administrators from across the continent.
Hosting the CAF Awards and General Assembly will be a major boost for Nigeria’s profile in African football, as the annual Awards ceremony remains the continent’s biggest night of glamour and recognition for the best players, coaches, and officials.
