Senegal advanced to the final of the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating hosts Morocco 7-6 on penalties following a thrilling 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
The Young Lions took the lead in the 23rd minute through Mouhamed Wagne, who reacted sharply to finish from close range after a parried cross. Morocco pushed hard for an equaliser and thought they had found it in the 41st minute, but Adam Al-Laki’s effort was ruled out by VAR.
Deep into stoppage time, the hosts were awarded a penalty in the 9th minute of added time. Although goalkeeper Assane Sarr saved Ismail El Aoud’s initial spot-kick, El Aoud reacted quickest to score the rebound, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations and forcing the match to penalties.
In the shootout, Senegal held their nerve, with Assane Sarr making crucial saves as the Teranga Lions triumphed 7-6.
Senegal will now face Tanzania in the final after the East Africans also advanced via penalties following their semi-final win over Egypt earlier in the day. A dramatic night in Rabat that keeps Senegal’s hopes of continental glory alive.
