The Nigerian Railway Corporation says it moved 176,820 tonnes of cargo through the Apapa Port rail corridor in the first quarter of 2026, according to its latest operational report. The corporation recorded 198 freight trips during the period, driven mainly by operations at APM Terminals and ENL Consortium terminals in Lagos.
The report showed that APM Terminals accounted for 129,240 tonnes of cargo movement, while ENL terminals handled 47,580 tonnes. March was the busiest month for APMT, with 50 freight services transporting 55,640 tonnes of cargo.
Among operators using the rail corridor, Eromma recorded 32 freight trips and moved 28,280 tonnes, while other operators included APM Terminals, CCECC Track Access, Depotter, Ajuba Containers and Starlink.
The NRC said the performance reflects growing confidence in rail transportation as an alternative for cargo evacuation. Stakeholders have continued to call for improved multimodal transport systems to reduce port congestion, logistics costs and pressure on roads caused by heavy truck traffic.
