Super Eagles new goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has expressed immense pride after receiving his first senior call-up to the Nigeria national team.
The 24-year-old Wrexham shot-stopper, who recently had his switch from England to Nigeria approved by FIFA, was named in Éric Chelle’s squad for the upcoming 2026 Unity Cup in London.
Speaking in an exclusive NFF video, Okonkwo said:
“It is an honour to play for your country. I am so excited, I can’t wait. To finally have the opportunity is incredible.”
The former Arsenal academy graduate will be hoping to make his senior debut during the tournament as Nigeria defend their Unity Cup title against Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and India.
Okonkwo enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Wrexham in the English Championship, making 39 appearances and keeping 10 clean sheets. His call-up is seen as a major boost for the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department ahead of bigger assignments later in the year.
The Unity Cup will serve as the first platform for the tall goalkeeper to showcase his talent in a Nigeria shirt.
