Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho delivered a heroic moment scoring a stoppage-time penalty in the 90+9th minute to secure a 3-2 victory for Celtic over Motherwell at Fir Park.
The late goal proved crucial as it kept Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title defence alive heading into the final weekend of the season. With league leaders Hearts winning comfortably earlier in the day, anything less than three points would have left Celtic needing a miracle on goal difference.
Iheanacho, who came off the bench, calmly converted the controversial penalty to give Celtic all three points. The win took the reigning champions to 79 points, just one point behind Hearts.
Celtic now face a straightforward task this weekend: they simply need to win their final match at Celtic Park against their opponent to clinch the title. A draw or defeat will hand Hearts their first Scottish Premiership title since 1960.
The Nigerian forward’s late heroics have given Celtic renewed hope of securing their 56th league title and their second consecutive championship.
