President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was notably absent at the commissioning of several key infrastructure projects in Lagos, despite being in the state for an official visit. In his place, Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented him and performed the ceremonies, drawing attention to the president’s unexpected nonappearance.
Akpabio, while inaugurating the projects, conveyed Tinubu’s commitment to national development and ongoing reforms, stating that the administration remains focused on improving infrastructure and restoring Nigeria’s global image. He emphasized that the projects form part of broader efforts to boost economic growth and improve living standards.
The commissioned projects are part of a wider set of infrastructure initiatives scheduled during Tinubu’s working visit to Lagos. They cut across transportation, education, and public service delivery, and are aimed at easing urban challenges such as traffic congestion while improving governance efficiency.
Among the projects expected to be unveiled are major developments like the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, a multi-agency government complex, and upgraded school facilities designed to strengthen administrative coordination and enhance education delivery.
Tinubu’s absence at the ceremonies sparked public curiosity, especially as he was reportedly in Lagos at the time. Nevertheless, officials maintained that the events proceeded smoothly, with Akpabio standing in to formally hand over the projects to the public.
