CAF President Patrice Motsepe has welcomed any investigation into alleged corruption at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stating that the organisation has nothing to hide.
Motsepe firmly rejected any suggestion of wrongdoing within the continental body. He declared: “I welcome any investigation [into corruption at CAF], whether it is by a government or an authority or anybody.”
The statement came during his visit to Senegal, nearly one month after CAF’s controversial decision to strip the Teranga Lions of the 2025 AFCON title and award it to hosts Morocco. The ruling has triggered widespread outrage in Senegal, with the government and football federation demanding a thorough independent probe into CAF’s handling of the final and the appeal process.
Motsepe’s visit to Dakar follows his announcement at the end of March that he would travel to both Senegal and Morocco to emphasise the need for African football stakeholders to “work together to grow the game.” He held meetings with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and senior officials of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).
The CAF president had earlier stated that he would “respect and implement the CAS decision” regarding the title saga, adding that his personal opinion on the matter was irrelevant. His willingness to accept any investigation is being viewed as an attempt to calm tensions and restore confidence in the continental governing body.
