Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho delivered a heroic performance off the bench, scoring two extra-time goals as Celtic defeated St Mirren 6-2 to reach the Scottish Cup final on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
Iheanacho was introduced as a substitute in the 84th minute with the score at 2-2 after St Mirren had fought back from two goals down to force extra time. The 29-year-old then took centre stage, netting in the 96th and 100th minutes to blow the game open and send Celtic to the Hampden Park showpiece.
The Nigerian forward was described as an "extra-time hero" for his decisive impact in the semi-final at Celtic Park. His brace helped the Hoops secure a convincing victory and book their place in the Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline on May 23.
“It feels amazing. I can’t even express how I feel now. Obviously, it was 2-2 at the end of the game and we went to extra time and we blew them away. So it feels really good to be in the final,” he said, Speaking to Premier Sports after the match.
This season has been stop-start for Iheanacho due to injuries, making his late heroics even more significant. It was his first major contribution in a cup tie this campaign and comes as a timely boost ahead of the final next month.
