A former Minister of State for Power, Goody Jedy-Agba, has argued that indiscipline, rather than corruption, is the root cause of Nigeria’s governance problems.
This declaration was made in Abuja during the launch of his memoir, “Grace Unspeakable,” where he used the platform to share his thoughts on leadership and public accountability.
He explained that when leaders lack basic discipline, they become prone to mismanaging resources, and he insisted that tackling this character flaw would go a long way in addressing the nation’s challenges.
“Our problem in Nigeria is not corruption. Our problem is indiscipline, If you are disciplined enough to know that you should not tamper with public funds, you will not tamper with public funds. If you are given money to do something, do that thing. Don’t syphon it for personal use," Jedy-Agba stated.
The former minister also took a moment to call on Nigerians to rethink how they view wealth. He expressed concern that society often celebrates rich individuals without questioning the source of their money, adding that it is possible to succeed through hard work and honesty.
Drawing from his own upbringing, he noted that the values of hard work and resilience, which he learned from his peasant community, shaped his path in life and also emphasized the need to write his memoir as a way to give back and inspire younger generations.
