Ride-hailing company Uber Technologies has called for dialogue with drivers as the ongoing strike by app-based transport operators continues to disrupt services across Lagos.
The industrial action, which began earlier in the week, has affected major platforms including Uber, Bolt, and inDrive, as drivers logged off their apps in protest against rising operational costs and unfavourable working conditions.
Drivers are demanding increased fares, reduced commission charges, and better welfare protections, citing the impact of fuel price hikes, inflation, and vehicle maintenance costs on their earnings.
In response, Uber stated that it remains committed to engaging drivers through constructive discussions. The company noted that maintaining a balance between the interests of drivers and riders is essential to the sustainability of its platform.
The strike has significantly reduced ride availability in Nigeria’s commercial hub, leaving many commuters stranded or forced to seek alternative transport options.
