The Enemy Within: The Tragic Death of Ariyo Timilehin

By Igwe Grace

The Owo community in Ondo State was once a peaceful neighborhood where residents lived in harmony with each other. But like many places today, that peace has been taken away by stories of killings, kidnappings, and banditry attacks. Yet, this recent tragedy in the community didn't come from the outside; it came from right inside a shared home.

This tragedy of  the death of 18-year-old Ariyo Timilehin, who was allegedly stabbed to death by his very own friend, Johnson Daniel was officially confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh in Akure. The two young men were remembered to be  best of friends, a pair often seen together around the neighborhood.

The community has been left in absolute shock, struggling to understand how two people who lived under one roof could end up this way. An apartment that was supposed to be a home of love and togetherness has suddenly been transformed into a home of terror.

As of now, the motive remains a mystery as  there has been no official confession from the suspect. While reports revealed that the two young men were involved in a heated argument, it remains unclear how a verbal dispute turned into a fatal moment where a knife was used to pierce a friend.

Was this a case of sudden, uncontrollable anger? Or was it something planned long before, using an argument as a cover-up? These questions remain unanswered as investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) take over the case.

In view of this, the Ondo state police command has expressed its sympathy to the family and also issued a stern warning to members of the public to never take the law into their own hands or resort to violence when resolving disputes emphasizing that no matter the disagreement, violence should never be the solution.

This tragic story serves as a stern reminder to everyone that no matter how close you are to someone, you can never truly know what is in their heart. As the saying goes, the mind is a secret.
The focus is now on uncovering the truth, ensuring justice is served, and finally laying Ariyo Timilehin to rest.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
