Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu has been appointed as the Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), replacing Véron Mosengo-Omba.

Adamu, who previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, becomes the first Nigerian to hold the prestigious position since the continental body was founded nearly seven decades ago. His appointment was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by the Congress during its meeting on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

He takes over from the Swiss-Congolese administrator Véron Mosengo-Omba, who tendered his resignation on the same day. Adamu’s elevation marks a significant milestone for Nigerian football administration on the African stage.

The new acting General Secretary is the son of prominent Nigerian sports figure Amos Adamu, a former FIFA Executive Committee member and ex-Director General of the Nigerian National Sports Commission.

The appointment comes at a critical period for CAF as the organisation continues to navigate various challenges in African football governance. Adamu is expected to bring his extensive experience in tournament organisation and event management to the role as he assumes leadership of the day-to-day operations of the continent’s football governing body.
