Dressing Vs Styling : The Dynamics

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor

We've all been there, you grab whatever's clean, throw it on, and head out the door. That's dressing, just getting the job done so you can tackle your day in Lagos traffic or whatever else life throws at you. It's the basics a comfy top, jeans that fit and sneakers. But then there's styling, that's where the fun really starts. Styling is when you pause, look in the mirror, and think, "How can I make this feel like me?" It's layering a scarf just so, stacking those necklaces, or pinning a bold brooch. Suddenly, the same outfit isn't just covering you, it's telling your story, showing your vibe, and turning heads without even trying too hard.

Right now in 2026, this whole idea is exploding on social media and in real life, thanks to the big comeback of intentional maximalism. After all those quiet, minimalist years where "less is more" ruled, people are craving more personality, more color, more life. Think TikTok and Instagram reels showing the classic "basic vs. styled" switch-up: start with plain jeans and a white tee, then watch the layered necklaces, oversized belts, earrings, and even a fun crochet cap turn it into something fresh and full of energy. It's not about buying everything new it's about playing with what you already have (or can grab affordably) to make it unique.

The best part? You don't need a huge budget to join in. Those little extras make the biggest difference.
In Lagos heat, keep it light, maybe a lightweight scarf or jewelry that won't weigh you down but still adds flair. Social media is buzzing with people sharing their transformations, proving that a few intentional additions can shift you from "dressed" to "styled" in minutes.

In a world where everything can start to look the same, intentional maximalism is about owning your style, showing confidence, and having a little fun with fashion. At the end of the day, dressing gets you out the door, but styling lets you walk in like you own the room.
In 2026, those small, bold touches aren't just nice-to-haves, they're what make your outfit feel alive.

The Tomorrow trap: why we procrastinate and how to break free

By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor It’s 11 p.m. in Lagos, and that major project due at 9 a.m.  is staring back at you from your laptop screen. Yet somehow, the work hasn’t started. Instead, you’re rearranging your playlist to create the “perfect” study vibe, finally replying to that group chat message from last week, or falling down an unexpected rabbit hole about why ancient Roman aqueducts were such a brilliant engineering feat. The minutes slip by. The clock seems to tick louder. A quiet sense of guilt begins to creep in, but the scrolling continues. For many university students, this cycle is all too familiar , an endless tug-of-war between looming deadlines and the irresistible distractions of the digital world. You're not lazy. You're human. Procrastination isn't a willpower deficit or a time-management glitch, it's an emotional rescue mission gone sideways. Modern psychology, led by researchers like Timothy Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois, frames it clearly: procrastinati...
