The Council of Legal Education has issued a formal warning to universities running unauthorized law programmes as it released the list of universities approved to run law programmes in Nigeria.
In a circular , signed by the council’s Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, he maintains that appropriate sanctions will be imposed on any university caught running law programmes without approval.
"The public is further informed that any university that admits students into a law programme without the approval of the Council of Legal Education is acting contrary to the provisions regulating legal education in Nigeria and will be subject to appropriate sanctions,” the circular stated.
The council also pointed out the negative repercussions on students that are admitted into unapproved law programmes, stating that they will be declared non -eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
The Council of Legal Education is the statutory body that oversees the Nigerian Law School, ensuring the maintenance of legal education standards in Nigeria.
